Derrick Brown performs "Victory Explosions"

As the great philosopher Boz Scaggs once sang, "What can I say?"

I'll just say this: if you're a poet in LA/Long Beach/Orange County and you aspire to acceptance from certain sects,
it doesn't hurt to love Derrick Brown without reservations.

  1. "I feel like a cloud she says/ and I know this is true/ for I know the terrible things that go on inside of clouds." -Derrick Brown

"We are clouds, and terrible things happen
in clouds." -some poet named Dean Young

Kinda makes one wonder what else dude has ripped off. Obviously, I desire no acceptance from the aforementioned sects.

  2. "Terrible things happening in clouds" is Biblical and is mentioned several times in the Bible. Moses led the chosen people out of Egypt by following a "terrible pillar of cloud" that was dark during the day and a pillar of fire at night. God's voice would boom out of the cloud and make proclamations. Fire and lightning would snake out and destroy people. The God cloud settled on top of Mt. Sinai and Moses had to go up there, into the cloudy top, to get the 10 Commandments. So the imagery of "terrible things inside the clouds" is common imagery and word phrase to any Biblical scholar. Here is one example:

    Isaiah 64: 1-4

    1. Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,

    2. As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

    3. When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

    4. For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
