"What's changed about [the practice of interviewing Famous People] is the more papers panic about sales, the more they want lowest-common denominator, headline-grabbing, negative stories, and the more celebrities become paranoid of it. There are old-school celebrities who see the interview as being a tool to help them, whereas the newer people just think of the celebrity interview as an irritating fly they have to swat."--Chrissey Iley describing an encounter with Mila Kunis.

Louis C.K. explains for me why I don't read THE HUFFINGTON POST like I used to.
I used to read Huffington Post, and I can't anymore, because it's all "Britney Spears' ass stuck out of her pants." It's just mean. There's so much meanness slung on people, people that are victims. Everybody gets made fun of, the way they look, and we all just fucking yap and speculate with quote-unquote outrage, tragic sadness. I don't think anybody's doing a great job with this stuff.--

Film blogger quote can also apply to poetry/literature communities.
Some context first: Lynne Ramsay, best known for directing the disturbing-in-a-necessary-way school-shooting film WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, was hired to direct a Western starring Natalie Portman called JANE GOT A GUN. Ms. Ramsay didn't show up for the start of JANE's filming and the bird-wings of film/media online gossip sites have fluttered.
Here's an intelligent quote from online film writer Devin Faraci, recently posted to Twitter:
"Lynne Ramsay thing reinforces how often people jump to support authority figures, corporations, money people over individuals and creatives."

Meaningful words from commenter on NEW YORK magazine factoid about Meredith Vieira's return to NBC.
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/09/meredith_vieira_returning_to_n.html
Here's commenter JWFS on the above post:
who cares? my therapist tells me not to get "involved " in other people's lives--like meredith viera--"get your own life" --she is right-- i have kind of am empty life and have found gossip and interest in what "meredith is doing" a way to fill the hole-- who really cares what meredith is doing? the world around is collapsing around us--- when i take media "fasts" i am a much happier person--otherwise i get swallowed up by useless information
And here's what Elton John said about all this stuff 23 years ago (though the song GOODBYE MARLON BRANDO gets a literal-minded video treatment here):
