What Nicolle Wallace's firing as day-to-day panelist on THE VIEW teaches us.

Headline from the DEADLINE.com site:

Nicolle Wallace Axed As ‘The View’ Regular After Proving Herself Insufficiently Shrill And Kardashian Illiterate

Whether or not one shares Wallace's conservatism (I don't), it's educational about how the morning show THE VIEW programs viewers to accept comic-book Sort-Of-Left/Right confrontationalism about "Hot Topics" ("good television" over thoughtful discussion) and why Elisabeth Hasselbeck proved to be a hit on the show as a Loyal Opposition caricature--which propelled her to the Big Time of Fox News.

Now, Nicolle Wallace can decide whether or not to take a demotion to recurring status.

Something to remember when violent movies get re-condemned in the wake of Connecticut and Oregon.

Reposting this comment made by "djiggs" on the HOLLYWOOD ELSEWHERE site:
"From his review of Gus Van Sant's 'Elephant,' a fictionalized account of a Columbine-like school shooting, here's Roger Ebert on the media's behavior while reporting these kinds of events:
"Let me tell you a story. The day after Columbine, I was interviewed for the Tom Brokaw news program. The reporter had been assigned a theory and was seeking sound bites to support it. "Wouldn't you say," she asked, "that killings like this are influenced by violent movies?" No, I said, I wouldn't say that. "But what about 'Basketball Diaries'?" she asked. "Doesn't that have a scene of a boy walking into a school with a machine gun?"
"The obscure 1995 Leonardo Di Caprio movie did indeed have a brief fantasy scene of that nature, I said, but the movie failed at the box office (it grossed only $2.5 million), and it's unlikely the Columbine killers saw it.
"The reporter looked disappointed, so I offered her my theory. "Events like this," I said, "if they are influenced by anything, are influenced by news programs like your own. When an unbalanced kid walks into a school and starts shooting, it becomes a major media event. Cable news drops ordinary programming and goes around the clock with it. The story is assigned a logo and a theme song; these two kids were packaged as the Trench Coat Mafia. The message is clear to other disturbed kids around the country: If I shoot up my school, I can be famous. The TV will talk about nothing else but me. Experts will try to figure out what I was thinking. The kids and teachers at school will see they shouldn't have messed with me. I'll go out in a blaze of glory."
"In short, I said, events like Columbine are influenced far less by violent movies than by CNN, the NBC Nightly News and all the other news media, who glorify the killers in the guise of "explaining" them.
"I commended the policy at the Sun-Times, where our editor said the paper would no longer feature school killings on Page 1. The reporter thanked me and turned off the camera. Of course the interview was never used. They found plenty of talking heads to condemn violent movies, and everybody was happy."
This is Ebert again. I gather my point is what goes around, comes around.

Poem: I'M AFRAID OF DENNIS MILLER.

As a response to Dennis Miller's recent antics (at Sonia Sotomayor's expense) on THE O'REILLY FACTOR, I'm resurrecting this old poem of mine:
I’M AFRAID OF DENNIS MILLER

I don’t want to get off on a rant here,
but I had a nightmare just recently.

In my dream, I saw former comedian Dennis Miller
walking down State Street in Santa Barbara
wearing a sandwich board saying
NUKE IRAN AND NORTH KOREA
BEFORE THEY NUKE US!!!
and selling sealed-in-plastic paperback copies
of General Douglas MacArthur’s autobiography.

I’m old enough to remember when Dennis Miller
was actually funny.
This was when he was the fake newsman on
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’S WEEKEND UPDATE
and hosted syndicated and HBO talk shows.
At that time, he poked fun at all kinds of absurdity-
whether it was from the Left or the Right.

Then, Dennis came out of the political closet
and became a rabid Republican.
He likes to say it was a result of 9/11.
But Dennis was already lusting for the favor
of George W. Bush and his acolytes
after the 2000 election.

And now he holds court on Fox News
(motto: We Distort, You Decide)
preaching to the angry-and-resentful converted
like a slightly more jovial carbon copy
of that master of fairness and balance-Bill O’Reilly.

I decide to go up to Dennis and pull his chain a little bit.

“Hey, Dennis!” I yell out.
“I remember when you referred to Tammy Faye Bakker
as The Stepford Hick on SNL.
Now, you’re making nice with the religious right.
What happened?”

Dennis scowls and his face turns the color
of a Red State.

“If you say that again, I’ll sue the f--- out of you!” he hisses.
“I’ve got a reputation to protect!
Besides, pal, you sound as impotent
as Woodrow Wilson arguing
for U.S. involvement in the League of Nations.
By the way, you wouldn’t be interested in a
JUST SAY NO TO KOFI ANNAN button, would you?
Of course not, you’re just another brain-dead liberal
who won’t listen to the Truth!
Get the f--- out of here
and go crawl up Howard Dean’s ass, why don’t you?”

I take the hint and start to walk away.

But I now hear Dennis singing a parody
of an old rock-and-roll song in an off-key,
malicious-drunk-tormenting-bar-patrons voice:
BOMB, BOMB, BOMB
BOMB BOMB IRAN!!!!

End of nightmare.
Fade to black.

Angie Harmon's a conservative from Dallas, Texas--and Fox News loves her.

The undoubted high point of actress Angie Harmon's career was playing Abbie, the go-get-em assistant prosecutor on LAW AND ORDER. Years after that triumph, Ms. Harmon (I'm guessing due to some kind of talent deal with Disney/ABC, who aired her last series THE WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB) is now just another supporting player on the bland Christina Applegate yupcom SAMANTHA WHO?--and Ms. Harmon's also receiving publicity for being an anti-Obama Republican: http://www.popeater.com/movies/article/angie-harmon-deemed-racist-for-hating/404722

Somehow, I don't think Abbie, no matter how conservative her politics and her attitude towards criminals, would have given Fox News the time of day.

Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck and his six-foot wall.

http://gawker.com/5187225/paranoid-faux-populist-glenn-beck-walls-himself-off-from-humanity?skyline=true&s=x

Next, Bill O'Reilly--feeling hurt since Glenn Beck is apparently the new favorite blowhard of Roger Ailes--will likely build an eight-foot wall, plus add a few guards toting machine guns to keep nonfans and angry far-leftists away......
